Accepting Ordinariness

Surprisingly accepting that you are an ordinary person brings Joy. Once you realise that being ordinary is ok it frees you. There is less pressure on you to achieve, to be better, you can be happy just being yourself. There is also great joy to be had in appreciating the simple pleasures of an ordinary day.

I had a lovely chat today with a lady on the bus. This was something ordinary that I enjoyed. When she was younger she lived and worked in Dublin. It turned our we both lived in Rathmines at different times, as many country people did. We spent a while talking about that area, its' shops and pubs. This brought me back to my time there. The good old days! They were ordinary too but the ordinary times are the good times.

Whatever you happen to be doing today, making a cup of tea or listening to the radio perhaps, or spending time with family or friends, make up your mind to savour and enjoy it. It is not the big occasions or dramatic moments that mean the most when we remember our lives but rather the ordinary days.
