About me

I am an artist and writer based in Co Roscommon. I have self published a "Little Book" and written occasionally for the St Martin Religious Magazine. I currently write for the Messenger Magazine and plan to produce a gift book on grief and the healing power of nature. I enjoy painting in watercolours and acrylics. Below please find some excerpts from "Sunlit Drops" to be published in 2025.

Nature

Nature can be very comforting. It is there all the time. It is evidence that there is something greater than us. I saw an insect on the floor. It had a perfectly symmetrical pattern on its tiny wings. Who measured it and painted it in inky black? The care taken in that created the hairs on your head, the cells of your body. Be humble. The credit for your amazingness belongs to God.

Scatterings of Autumn

It is December, but the scatterings of Autumn remain. Leaves, brown and rotting on the grass. Memories of the year gone by. It won't be long until the swallows return. A few short months, a first anniversary. It's been short. The second year...will it be more of a letting go? Or will the feeling that it hasn't been long remain. I remember her asking when her own mother died, thirty years. I was 18. The first of close family. I'm easier on myself now. There is less pressure to achieve.  It's time to rest, to create. That's why I'm easier. There is less time for worldly things, for stress.

Singing in a lower Key

Wine grows full bodied with maturity as do we. With loss and experience, we may lose some exuberance and begin to sing in a lower key. Slower, deeper, more beautiful in a way. He walks before us carrying his cross. We have eaten a little of his body...and tasted a little blood. In his promise lies our hope.
